Guiseppe Lonardi 2006 Valpolicella Classico Veneto
Located in Marano di Valpolicella, which has a cooler growing season, it’s possible to produce wine that is all about the terroir. When I first stuck my nose in a glass of this wine I thought to myself, “this has an Italian finish” and the second time I tasted it with the supplier I wrote “this wine smells like Italy.” It comes down to location of the estate (the terroir) and three grape varietals not known to many: Corvina (75% of the blend), Rondinella (20%) and Molinara (5%) are traditional Valpolicella varietals. Traditionally they make for wine with a “dusty” palate of red fruits and spice. There is no barrel ageing of this wine. |

Tre Donne 2005 Barbera D'Alba Piedmont
Sexy is how I describe this wine, with its strawberry fruit, spice, zippiness, and sensually soft tannin structure. That is the perfect Barbera in twenty words or less. Three sisters, (Daniela, Rosanna and Antonella Lequio) run this estate in Neive, something that disappointed their father Alessandro at first. It’s not that he doesn't love his daughters, it’s just that four generations of fathers had handed the estate down to their sons. The sisters sure did show him, they make better wines than he ever did and they each have a daughter, not sons, that will end up with the winery. To be fair Alessandro still manages the vineyards and his very happy with how his daughters have done. |

Fattoria Bibbiani 2008 Poggio Vignoso Chianti Tuscany
Good stuff is what I wrote when I tasted this wine. It’s super fresh and well structured two qualities that should classify it as better than good, considering the price. Great Chianti should also bright cherry aromas and flavors. Yep, you guessed it, this does and in spades. Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Malvasia make up the blend and the wine spent less than a year in Slavonian oak casks. |

Giuseppe Lonardi 2004 Privilegia Veronese Veneto
Lonardi dries the Corvina (50% of the blend) for this wine, in the fashion of great Amarone. The other half of the blend is Cabernet Franc. Corvina provides the backbone to this wine with great acidity, some spice, and dried cherries. The Cab Franc brings an intense earthiness and aromatic perfumes. A mere 450 cases of this wine was made. |
