California winemakers are doing exciting things blending wines from various sources to create wines that are both delicious and priceworthy. This Meritage red is an example of how excellent value-priced wines can be created by blending various lots that on there own might not be quite as interesting, but which shine when blended together. The "Andrews Cuvee" is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Merlot. The result is a delicious wine that speaks of "Napa" perhaps more than any of verietals in the blend. Complex cassis and berry fruit with a hint of savory herbs, smooth and rich and oh-so-drinkable, with more depth that you'd every expect at this price. In the "everday Cabernet" sweepstakes, this blend is a winner, and proves that sometimes blending varietals creates a wine that is greater than the sum of its parts
